Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be a Christian Sorority?

We are a Christian social sorority. We are founded in Christ first, and secondly in Sisterhood. We encourage one another to grow in love through life in Christ.  Some of the ways in which we fellowship include Bible studies, social events, retreats, and service projects. Sigma Alpha Omega® is a great way to get involved and enjoy college while still remaining true to your identity as a woman of God.

Do you have to be a specific denomination to be apart of Sigma Alpha Omega®?

No. SAO is a nondenominational/interdenominational organization. All we ask is that you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God asks us to simply be followers of Christ. Therefore, we will never try to force you to adhere to a specific denomination or become a member of a certain church. Though as a candidate, you will be required to submit your testimony to the Candidate Mentors as part of your requirements.

Is Sigma Alpha Omega® Panhellenic?

No. Therefore, you do not need to register for formal recruitment. Please vist the recruitment tab for more information about our fall recruitment schedule.

When is Recruitment?

Recruitment is held during the Fall semester in mid-September. We also have a recruitment during the Spring. Please visit the recruitment tab for more information about fall and Spring recruitment.

How many girls can be recruited each semester?

We never have a set amount.  We believe that God will put the girls in this sorority that he believes are right for it.

How much are dues?

Candidate (New Members)
Active Sister Dues are $260
Associate Sister Dues are $140
Dues are paid each semester. Payment plans are available.

What is the weekly time commitment during candidacy?

Each week varies throughout the candidate process.  You will be required to meet once a week with the candidate mentors and with your "big sister".  Some weeks may require more outside time than others, but we will not ask anything of you that would be disrespectful of your time. School comes first and we understand that.
